The Space Godzilla
The Space Godzilla is the natural progression from the loop, as the two moves are quite similar. Basically, the Space Godzilla is a combination of an aerial loop and the stern end of a cartwheel. The best Space Godzilla’s are completely aerial and will leave you feeling like you can stomp the crap out of China town.
Step one: Set up high on the foam pile of a deep hole and plug your bow into the green water as if you were going to perform a standard loop. If you plan on doing a Space Godzilla to the right initiate your bow on a left low brace. This will help set up your body for the next part of the move. Note: This description assumes that you are performing a Space Godzilla to the right.
Plug your bow at the seam of the hole
Step Two: Once your bow is initiated jump up and to the left. You should time the jump so you’re at the peak of your pop once your boat reaches vertical. Remember that leaning back pulls your boat vertical. As you’re jumping start reaching across your bow preparing to plant your right blade which will initiate your stern.
Stand up and jump off of your foot block
Step Three: As soon as your boat goes past vertical begin tucking forward and to your left, planting your blade at your knee. This tucked position should resemble the set up for a standard roll.
Tuck forward and to one side
Step Four: Once you are tucked up with your right blade firmly planted, take a forward stroke to twist your boat and slam the stern down like a cartwheel. Your weight should stay neutral to forward during this stage of the move.
Slam your stern down like a cartwheel
Step Five: Lift up with your left knee to flatten off your edge and take a stroke with your left blade to regain balance and help keep yourself in the hole. This stroke is often the second half of a sweep roll, as you’ll frequently land on edge about to fall over to one side.
Finish with a forward stroke to help level off your edge
