Airport Sleepover and West Coast Action
So I’m waiting to get on my flight to Vancouver when I get the call from Scott, “I’m running a little late, I might not make the first ferry back from Skook but I’m pretty sure that there’s one an hour later.” As I’m watching the Calgary Mountain Bike Police circle this sketchy looking guy my phone rings again. It’s Scott, “Yeah I missed the ferry and the next one isn’t until the morning, have a good night!”
An hour long flight and I still have to spend the night at the airport. I get to Vancouver and start my hunt for the perfect sleeping bench. The benches at the Vancouver Airport suck, they all have armrests so you can’t lie down but luckily I poached the only one around without armrests from some old lady. I’m pretty sure she was going to leave anyway but the fact that I sat down right beside her and started making a fort for my bags out of baggage trolleys sped her up a little. Anyway Scott shows up in the morning with a truck full of pizza’s and we head to Squamish. (we’ll leave the truck full of pizza’s at that)

After Scott got the oil changed in his truck and did everything else he could think of (laughing at me the entire time cause I was itching to go boating) we headed to the Ashlu. The Ashlu was sweet, super continuous with no drop over ten feet but still really fun. It was a bit of a wake up call for me since I hadn’t been in a creek boat for a few months. I think I flipped more times than I usually do play boating! After a few runs of the Ashlu we headed to Daisy Lake creek, another continuous fun run. When we were almost at the end Scott gave me the low down on the next drop. A little slot drop where there’s not much you can do except stay forward and get your paddle parallel to your boat since it’s so narrow. I come to the lip get my paddle in position and stay forward as I was told, only things don’t quite go as planed. I endered and flopped back into the hole getting stuck against a wall/cavey thingy and ended up swimming. I don’t blame Scott for bad beta, it was just a crappy little slot.

Low water Frog action
Any who we headed to the Thompson the next morning for a session on the Frog Wave. It was at a less than perfect level and the eddy was hard to catch so it wasn’t long before we packed it in and headed home. Apparently this wave is wicked at the right level, hopefully I get there when it’s sweet soon. It is on the Thompson River.
