North Pole Stream (Miramichi)
The Palisades of the North Pole Stream are a short section of water just before the stream dumps into the Little SW Miramichi River. Paul told us they drop 100 feet in 300 yards. You can drive into a Crown camp and hike you boat up the stream to the top of the Palisades (Approximately 15-30 minute hike). All the while hiking you can take a look at the water and where you plan on going.
You put in above the first drop in a relatively calm area and can ferry to the river left bank to scout the first drop a little more if the right bank scout wasn’t good enough. The first drop slides down over a rock and hits a wall dead on and screams off to the left. The line here is to angle left and stay left and try not to hit the water that piles into the wall. If you manage to go into the wall try and get your boat left and get ready to brace, but watch out you don’t pull your shoulder out bracing against a rock wall. This is probably the hardest drop on the run. There are at least 4 other drops which are more straight forward after this drop. All good drops with a little technicality to them. At high water these drops can have some insanely big holes to them and the water can become very pushy. You know where your line is but you just can’t get there!
You can get out at the Crown Reserve camp or continue on to the LSW Miramichi and run the rest of this down to Libby Brook.
Mr Burley first ran this by himself in 2004.
