The Blunt
The blunt is an advanced wave move where you spin from front surf to back surf throwing your stern vertical. This is an essential wave move to learn and mastering it will demonstrate that you’re ready for any of the other advanced wave moves.
Step One: Step up at the top of the wave and shoot down the face pointing towards the best shoulder. As you come down the wave’s face carve aggressively towards that shoulder. A good shoulder will be steep and relatively close to the foam pile. The steeper the shoulder the easier it will be to blunt.

1. Carve aggressively towards the best shoulder
Step Two: As you reach the shoulder throw your weight back to lift your bow higher from the water so you’ll have more power to throw it down.

2. Throw your weight back to lift your bow from the water
Step Three: Now begin a back sweep to initiate the move, start to throw your weight forward and snap your boat onto it’s other edge.

3. Initiate the move
Step Four: You want to initiate your blunt at 12 o’clock, so once you reach 12 o’clock your boat should be hard on edge and your weight should be forward. Keep pushing on your back sweep until your halfway through the move, at this time you need to level off your edge and be ready with a back recovery stroke on the other side to help keep you on the wave.

4. Be ready to level off your edge
Step Five: Although this move happens very fast keeping your eyes upstream will effectively help you spot your landing. Mastering the blunt isn’t an easy task, remember the key to success is edge transition and weight transition.

5. Finish with a back recovery stroke
