North American Tour #1 Big Waves and Puku’s
Here we are, three dummies from Eastern Canada setting out on a road trip across North America at the worst possible time. A time when most people won’t even drive to the grocery store when their fridge is empty because the price of gas is too high…but we decidedit’d be a good time for the biggest road trip of our lives.

The past two weekends NB paddlers headed across the border to paddle some of the fantastic whitewater maine has to offer. A good turnout headed over to the Pennobsquot last weekend for the last large scale releases of the season. The Bucket-headz (Ian Cambell, Laurie Brown, Erick Burley, and myself) were out in full force to make it interesting. The weekend was jam packed with stylish moves, interesting lines, and duty free beer (24 moosehead for 18$).
To top the weekend off i picked up a copy of No Umbrella which is a local paddling oriented magazine. Flipped through it to find out that i won a photo contest they held earlier in the year. The photo that won was of Erick Burley running junior falls on moxie stream. I also recieved runner up for a photo I took of Ian Cambell boofing a 16 ft. drop on Cold Stream.

This past weekend most of the Bucketheadz travelled back to Maine to run the classic Gulfhagas, the exception was Laurie Brown ‘BEAR’ who went hunting this past weekend. It was a beautiful sunny day in Maine and although the level was low the Hagas was still running. Once Ian got back to the put in using a tricycle as a means of shuttle the three of us were ready to hit the water.

The first rapid of the day was a nice 14 footer followed by an 18 footer the river then after a few more drops we were in the gorge which offered some of the most hairy water i have ever run. We able to run most of the river and only had to portage the drop of death named amok. after we arrived at the take out we found some scribbles on notebook paper saying how sexy we were. this plus the great lines on the river gave us the confidence to carry out the mandatory work we have to do through the week. I can’t wait to see what adventure next weekend brings.
