North American Tour #6- Park and Huck Dune Style

We were so close. Only an hour from San Diego and what do we come across, miles of sand dunes. As far as the eye could see perfect hills of sand just like in the movies only they’re covered in guys on four wheelers, dirt bikes, and dune buggies. We pull off to check it out and as we get closer I decide that it’d be a great idea if we take a break and go sand boating.

We get out of the car and it hits us…it has to be at least 45 degrees (Celsius) and ridiculously dry. Wow, were in a desert who would of expected that! The heat didn’t matter though, we were on a mission and sticking to it. We walk up the first dune only to find out that it’s not steep enough and we can‘t get any speed. Dam spud boats where’s my dancer! Zac spotted a “sand face” off in the distance that looked long and super steep so off we went. It must have been a mirage because once we got their it wasn’t anything like we expected but still the best we had come across. We did one slide each then retreated to the car with a quick pit stop for some water and a few sand wheels. I think we all lost at least five pounds in half an hour from sweating so much. Sweating didn’t help at all since every part of us that was wet sand stuck to…which is everywhere. (beautiful mental picture eh?) But hey look on the bright side, you could start an awesome weight loss program there.

Remember always hear a helmet when you go sand boating…maybe even a PFD, cause you never know when you’ll hit a patch of quick sand! Were going to be in Baja tomorrow so check back for updates soon.
