North American Tour #2- Ottawa River, Weaser the Escape Cat

We made it to the Ottawa greeted with clear skies, 26 degree (Celsius) weather and a prime level for Garburator, what more could we ask for! How about a free house to stay in only minute’s from the put-in! All we had to do is feed the cat and leave the house as it was when we got their. Easy enough right?

Weaser (the cat) is possibly the most verbal cat in the world! He meowed from the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left. Not only was he a meowaholic but he was also the most aggressive escape cat I’ve ever seen. If anyone went near the door Weaser was close by ready to pounce. The biggest problem was none of us had any idea if the cat was allowed outside or not. So, after two days of playing goalie at the door we find out that it’s allowed outside…we gave it the boot! (don’t worry Weaser wasn’t harmed)

We met up with two other Nova Scotian’s to reunite our old team. We called ourselves Team Natural Disaster because when we first started paddling together something always seemed to go wrong. You could pretty well guarantee that someone was going to swim, get pined, forget an essential piece of equipment but paddle anyway, or have something go wrong before we even got to the river.

With everyone together again we made sure to take advantage of Garburator’s perfect level. Unfortunately it didn’t stay warm, after our first day we woke up to Canada! We brought out the dry tops and kept on paddling on a few exceptionally cool days. Great rides and big air were had by all, Ben had a blast even though he wasn’t feeling so hot after a night in Ottawa filled with ridiculous escapades like climbing the side of our building balcony to balcony until he met us in the apartment we were staying if four stories above. The smile didn’t leave Zac’s face the whole time he was there and there’s no place I’m happier than on the river with good friends and great spots.

We’re approaching the New York boarder now trying to escape Ontario’s cold. Zac still behind the wheel and Ben inebriated in the back trying to tell us what to do. Stay tuned for the New York report, Happy Paddling!
